AAUW Greensboro is pleased to report the success of the Intersection UNCG camp held from Monday, June 10th to Friday, June 14th. Hosted by the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) in the Music Building at 100 McIver Street, the camp had a total of twenty-eight students in 4th through 8th grades who were supported by ten AAUW Teen Near Peer Mentors and UNCG School of Education assistant professor Dr. Hamid Nadir. Graduate students Sara Payne and Rajesh Sigdel from the Department of Environment and Sustainability led a special water habitat field study. Laura Tew, AAUW North Carolina STEM Education chair, was the coordinator/organizer for the camp with administrative support from Amy Moore and Abigail Harris of CVPA. Cyber Secuirty Camp ’24 (2) Kavya Donepudi
The 4-6th graders worked on identifying real-world problems and how they could solve them with the technology they learned during camp. Topics varied from world hunger to women’s health and STEM Social Justice.
Sara Payne and Rajesh Sigdel teach the importance of observation and data collection to answer the question: “is this stream healthy?”
The 7-9th graders worked on physical experiments with physical and natural science. Participating in various labs helped better their understanding of chemical and physical properties.
