To the Woman of the AAUW,

Greetings, my name is Annie Benson. I am the Media Specialist/Librarian with Guilford County Schools at Vandalia Elementary. I’m reaching out in hopes of establishing a partnership with the AAUW, Greensboro. The research is clear, libraries impact higher student performance: improved reading test scores, higher academic achievement, and positive attitudes towards learning. But beyond that, school libraries should be a place where students want to come and get lost in a good book—and that is what I want for the 248 students at Vandalia Elementary School.

Guilford County Schools’ mission through our literacy curriculum is to build a reading culture in every classroom at every school.   We track the reading engagement of each student as we build their love for reading and the library is pivotal for that great work. With your partnership we can excite and engage our students again.

We are hoping to create a library that provides our students with the opportunity to grow and learn as readers. We are asking for your help in creating an environment that is easily accessed by all, comfortable and full of the most up to date literature on topics of interest for our students. We are also working at creating and developing a STEM lab where our students can discover and create, but we need your help!

On behalf of the students and staff at Vandalia Elementary School, thank you in advance for your support and I look forward to the transformation of our library, right before our eyes.

Creating a reading culture, one book at a time,

Annie Benson
