The Forge is a nonprofit, 501c3 adult makerspace located on Lewis Street in downtown Greensboro. This fully equipped facility provides on-site tools and technology for hobbyists and entrepreneurs.
AAUW Greensboro has partnered with Forge Greensboro to offer a program we call Women in Nontraditional Careers, WINc, to provide access for women seeking to develop skills while transitioning to new careers.
Girls Exploring Tools and Tech, GETT, is an AAUW G initiative which is being developed in collaboration with Forge Greensboro to offer opportunities for girls to potentially experience a range of trade and fabrication skills.
During the current phase of home-based learning, AAUW G has provided equipment for girls to learn robotics and Internet of things using equipment at home with programming software online taught in through virtual classes via the Zoom platform.
Forge 3D Printing Club is our first GETT program.
- The first cohort is limited to 10 students – each of whom will have the use of a 3 D printer in the home.
- 3D opportunity registration will be open for our group until August 30th. AAUW G families who participate will also receive one month complementary family membership at Forge Greensboro which they may use anytime during the next year.
- Cost $350
- Learning objectives include: how to operate a Creality Ender3 3D Printer; the basics of 3D modeling using TinkerCAD; how to use Ultimaker Cura Slicing software
- Admission to this club includes: Creality Ender3 Printer Lease (with option to buy); Enough filament for what will be covered in the class (and likely some left over!); A tool box with basic 3D printing tools
