Tweens and Teens Coding and Robotics Event January 28 2024

Community Report: The American Association of University Women, Greensboro Branch, provided materials and volunteer instructor/mentors for coding and robotic open house. Approximately 50 people (students, parents, educators, volunteers) participated. We are appreciative of the library staff for the space and opportunity to share projects designed and built by Swann Middle School students at their afterschool program which can be viewed on this video

Students are led by near peer mentors, teen instructors from AAUW’s innovative Tech Savvy initiative for Girls.

Working hands-on with Sphero littleBit electronics kit materials, students learn electronic and engineering principles. They are encouraged to explore, experiment, and create

Working hands-on with microBric Edison robotics, students learn design and building techniques with familiar Lego compatible parts.

Using the same table-top robots, students coding and programming skills with the innovative bar-code reading scanner as well as the EdisonScratchApp on their tablets or laptops.

In the story corner of the children’s section of the library, younger students worked with teen volunteers to experience remote control coding of Botley Coding Robot for kids 5 and under. The robot has various sensors such as line tracking, object avoidance, and sounds.
