We pause to honor Dr. Susan Curtis whose passing in December 2023 makes us regret that we did not know her better. AAUW members are always women with great passion and stamina when it comes to supporting women and girls toward better education and economic conditions. Dr. Curtis life in science and in higher education made an impact on individuals and colleagues.
Dr. Curtis was Professor of Chemistry at Bennett College and other roles for nearly thirty years. Upon retirement, she joined the Greensboro Branch of AAUW and was interested in the Book Browsers reading group.
Along her path at Bennett, she held many positions, including Interim Chair Biological and Chemical Sciences, Director of Academic Partnerships, Director of the Division of Natural & Behavioral Sciences & Mathematics, Interim Director of the Division of Natural & Behavioral Sciences & Mathematics, NSF HBCU-UP Co-Principal InvestigatorĀ , Co-Principal Investigator for the Northeast Alliance Grant, Curriculum Developer in Department of Chemistry, Interim Department Chair of Biology, and Interim Department Chair of Chemistry
