Women in Nontraditional Careers

The US Department of Labor defines a non-traditional career as one in which 25% or less of those employed across the field are women.

Historically underrepresented populations such as women, people of color, and individuals with disabilities are vastly underrepresented in most of our high-demand industry sectors. Women in Nontraditional Careers (WIN) was launched by AAUW Greensboro in 2018 to help close not only the skills gap but the equity gap that exists in the workforce.

Led by committee Chair, Tiffany Jacobs, the Women in Nontraditional Careers initiative continues to provide programming that bolsters pathways for girls and women to enter and lead in all industries. WIN celebrates women working in traditionally male-dominated industry sectors.Tiffany Jacobs, Executive Director of the Forge Greensboro and Chair of AAUW Women in Nontraditional Careers.

Tiffany’s passion for providing equitable access to opportunity for those throughout the community is unparalleled. She has worked for ApprenticeshipNC for the past four years as the Piedmont Triad Regional Apprenticeship Coordinator. ApprenticeshipNC is part of the Economic Development Division of the North Carolina Community College System. In this role, Tiffany covered 11 counties across the Piedmont Triad Region of North Carolina, assisting employers in developing registered apprenticeship programs to meet high demand business and industry needs.  She has spearheaded several collaborative partnerships, career exploration programs and workforce development initiatives for the Forge.
